About Mineke Foundation

Mineke Foundation was founded in 2009 and seeks to continue the work our founder’s parents started in Dabwe Town in 1968. These roots still shape our commitment today.

We publish annual reports every year, so supporters can see how funds are used and what progress has been made.

Mineke Foundation is fully registered and accredited as an NGO in Liberia. We undergo financial audits every year to maintain our accreditation. Our work is carried out by a local Liberian team, supported by international volunteers and donors.

Our support foundation is registered as an ANBI in the Netherlands. This means that donations from Dutch taxpayers may be tax-deductible.

Mission and objectives

Our ultimate goal is for people to become financially self-sufficient — either through quality education that leads to employment, or through entrepreneurship and running their own business. We work towards this through two core themes: education and entrepreneurship.

In practice, we do this through three projects in Dabwe Town, Liberia:

  • Damiefa School — quality, affordable education for nearly 400 students from primary through Grade 9, with a focus on children from low-income families
  • Women’s Club — business training, microloans, and educational workshops on health, finance, and women’s rights for almost 300 members (and growing)
  • Resource Center — a safe learning and play environment for children and teenagers, currently in development

Policy plan overview

Mineke Foundation was founded in 2009 by Tonia Dabwe, building on the work of her Liberian father and Dutch mother. The foundation is named after Tonia’s mother, who has been missing since the civil war in Liberia.

The foundation’s activities include:

  • Vocational skills training for young people and adults, in particular women
  • Entrepreneurship training for young people and adults, in particular women
  • Providing microloans to young people and adults, in particular women
  • Education on women’s rights, health, finances, and gender-based violence
  • Managing and operating Damiefa School to provide quality, affordable education

Fundraising and use of funds

We raise funds to carry out our activities in Liberia. We report annually on how all funds raised have been used. Stichting Mineke Foundation is a non-profit organisation. Any surplus generated by its activities will be applied in accordance with the foundation’s objectives.
