For now, the Mineke Foundation Resource Center is mostly used by students from Damiefa School. But thatโs just the starting point.
Weโve always seen the Resource Center as something bigger: a space for learning that goes beyond the school day and beyond the school gates. A space that we can open to children, youth and adults from Dabwe Town and surrounding communities.
In the 2025/2026 school year, weโll be launching a small public lending library. For a low fee, children will be able to borrow books to take home. Nothing like this exists in our working area. Our Resource Center will be the only place nearby where kids can access age-appropriate books outside of school. And where we have a nice collection of educational toys for indoor and outdoor play.
In 2026, weโre also planning to explore low-bandwidth ed-tech solutions. Our goal? To provide tablets pre-loaded with educational software that can be used at the Resource Center and during regular lessons. Itโs an ambitious step, but it could transform how children access information and reinforce classroom learning in a practical way.
And finally, we’d like to relaunch something we piloted before COVID: working with surrounding high schools to offer their students digital skills lessons and opening our computer lab to youth and adults from Dabwe Town and elsewhere who also want to learn digital skills.
The Resource Center is a Mineke Foundation initiative. It is designed to stand on its own so we can grow it responsibly and serve a wider group of learners that just the Damiefa School students.
This will take time. To test, refine and implement. But we believe in building things that last. ๐
