Life of a Girl, UNFPA Liberia & CNN

Liberia’s education system was unstable for decades because of the civil war, during which many children could not go to school. Only 37% of girls between the ages of 15 and 24 are literate, compared to 63% of boys.

“Life of a Girl” was produced by CNN in collaboration with UNFPA and UN Women to highlight girls’ experiences and significant life milestones. UNFPA Liberia worked with Mineke Foundation to collect and share stories of teenage girls in our Youth Club. Club members Shelia, Dearest and Vanessa participated, sharing their memories of their first day at school. You can read their stories here.
